About Me
Roscoe is a goofy, affectionate, people-loving 5-year-old with BIG main-character energy and absolutely no concept of personal space. He is happiest when he is involved in whatever his person is doing, whether that means following them around the house, curling up right beside them, or finding some way to make himself the center of attention. One of Roscoe’s funniest quirks is how seriously he takes booty scratches. He will back himself right into you, arch his whole back, and start stomping his back feet like he is personally demanding that you keep going. He also loves scalp scratches, carrying around his favorite toys like prized possessions, and generally acting like he has been neglected if he has gone more than five minutes without affection. Roscoe is definitely a high-energy dog, but when his physical and mental needs are met, he settles beautifully. He has a really nice mix of playful and chill. His favorite activities include Jolly Balls, bones, sniffing, enrichment games, food puzzles, playing outside, and running on a slat mill. Once he has had his fun, he is more than happy to settle in and become a professional couch potato and stage-five clinger. His life before the shelter is unknown. He was found as a stray, already underweight and with cuts on his face and legs, then spent nearly 90 days in the shelter. That environment took a real toll on him physically. During his shelter stay, he lost about 25% of his body weight, despite already arriving underweight. Since entering foster care, he has been decompressing, gaining weight, rebuilding strength, and showing more and more of his ridiculous, sweet personality every day.

He would do best with an experienced, confident adopter who is comfortable providing structure, enrichment, consistency, and continuing the training plan established for him. He will need to be the one-and-only pet in the home, which honestly fits his BIG main-character energy perfectly. A securely fenced-in yard is also important so he has a safe place to run, sniff, play, decompress, and enjoy enrichment without having to rely on busy neighborhood walks or unpredictable dog encounters. Roscoe is definitely a high-energy dog, but once his needs are met, he settles really well and is just as happy lounging with his person. He’s not the kind of dog who can just be thrown into any lifestyle and expected to figure it out. He needs someone who will understand him, manage him responsibly, and give him the consistency he needs to thrive.

What makes Roscoe so special is how deeply he loves people. Even after everything he has been through, he still meets people with an open heart. He trusts, he connects, and he genuinely seems to believe every new person might be his next best friend. There is something really striking about a dog who endured the instability of being a stray and then visibly declined physically, mentally, and emotionally in a municipal shelter, yet still came out of that experience wanting nothing more than to connect with people. That is what makes Roscoe worth the extra management he needs. His challenges around other animals are real and have to be taken seriously, but they are only one part of who he is. With people, he is affectionate, trusting, devoted, and so eager to be loved. Roscoe is going to need someone who understands his needs and is willing to build a life that keeps him safe and successful. But in return, they are going to get a dog who loves hard, bonds deeply, and gives his whole heart.
